We offer a complete line of sizes and grades available in our Designer Cedar decking collection. Our 2×2, 2×4, 2×6, 5/4×6, 4×4, 4×6, and 6×6 Designer Cedar is available in tight knot, select and clear-vertical grain grades. Designer Cedar is slightly edge beveled and sanded ready for a finish to be applied by our own in-house prefinish department or by you. By offering a dried and sanded product, you will find all finishes will perform better. This unique process to our company offers lower maintenance costs and better performance. Most cedar decking today is not dried and sanded. Therefore, finishes do not penetrate (see below) or perform as good as they could. If you are interested in a hidden fastener system, we produce 5/4×6 and 2×6 Designer Grooved Cedar decking into our highly acclaimed micro crown radius edge pattern. Liquid Penetration Comparison of cedar decking

Comparison of liquid penetration into the surface of 2×6 Designer Cedar (left) which has a sanded face to typical 2×6 Cedar (right) local lumberyard (unsanded face). You will find stains penetrate more effectively and perform better on our dried and sanded 2×6 Designer Cedar.

Clear Vertical Grain or CVG

90% of boards have no knots, 10% of boards can have a small knot 1/4” diameter or less for every 8’.
Vertical grain orientation.
Occasional end split limited to 6” in length.
Wane limited to 1/8” x 15% of length on back face for 1” thickness, 1/4” x 15% of length on back face for 5/4” & 2” thicknesses.
Back face can have some skip dressing/torn grain or voids.
Natural wood characteristics allowed (burled grain and color variation)
Will contain both heart and sap colors, no blue sap stain.
Great choice when looking for a high quality appearance.

Clear

Select

70% of boards have no knots, 30% of boards can have a knot up to ¼” diameter every 1’ or up to 1-1/2” diameter for every 4’.
Flat grain orientation.
Occasional end split limited to 6” in length.
Wane limited to 1/8” x 15% of length on back face for 1” thickness, 1/4” x 15% of length on back face for 5/4” & 2” thicknesses.
Back face can have some skip dressing/torn grain or voids.
Natural wood characteristics allowed (gum pocket, burled grain and color variation)
Will contain both heart and sap colors, no blue sap stain.
Great choice for a value priced high quality grade with few knots.

Tight Knot

Knots are sound and tight.
No size or quantity limitation on knots, can be star checked with voids up to 1/8” wide x 1/4” deep.
Can have black ring knot on face, but knot must be ingrown on back face.
Flat grain orientation.
Occasional end split limited to 6” in length and slight surface checking is allowed.
Wane limited to 1/8” x 15% of length on back face for 1” thickness, 1/4” x 15% of length on back face for 5/4” & 2” thicknesses.
Back face can have some skip dressing/torn grain or voids.
Natural wood characteristics allowed (peck, ingrown bark, birdseye, gum pocket, burled grain and color variation)
Will contain both heart and sap colors.
Pine is limited to 10% blue sap stain, no open pitch pockets, but may have up to 10% sappy grain.
Great choice when a knotty appearance is required.
